As the American historian David McCullough once said, \u201cHistory is who we are and why we are the way we are.\u201d Today, under a blazing 109\u00b0F sun, we weren\u2019t just flying a drone, we were bridging centuries, uncovering stories etched in stone and shadow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xiao Jing (477\u2013523), cousin to Emperor Wu of Liang, was no ordinary figure. At 19, he governed a county praised as \u201cthe best-managed city of a hundred.\u201d Later, he led troops to defend the region, famously defeating a 70,000 strong army and earning reverence in court. His tomb\u2019s stone huabiao, elegant, rare, and carved with mirrored script, has inspired Nanjing\u2019s iconic guardian symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the heat that felt like an open oven, my father quipped, \u201cIs this a drone survey or a sauna session for our flying machine?\u201d I chuckled, \u201cAt least it doesn\u2019t complain; better keep it airborne!\u201d Together, we combined modern technology with ancient history, deepening my respect for Xiao Jing\u2019s legacy and strengthening our father and son bond, two explorers making history come alive, one flight at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
